Systems Engineer

With more than 25 years of security and law enforcement experience, Steve Sweet currently works as a systems engineer in the Nuclear Security Engineering and Operations department at Sandia National Laboratories.  

In 1993, Steve started his career as a Sheriff’s deputy in the greater Houston, Texas, area, working his way up the ranks as a patrolman, detective, and a primary member of the Special Operations Group (SOG), where he conducted high-risk warrant service, and worked in conjunction with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. He then moved to New Mexico, where he served as a supervisor, instructor, and administrator for the U.S. DOE security forces’ Special Response Team, which is based in Los Alamos and Albuquerque. While working with the security police forces, Steve managed high-security operations with the Sandia National Laboratories Protective Force and served as Sandia’s Protective Force delegated representative that travelled to coordinate work at the Tonopah Test Range in Nevada. 

Steve attended Sam Houston State University and the Texas A&M University Criminal Justice Academy in Bryan-College Station, Texas. Steve is certified to teach multiple subjects relating to law enforcement and security, and has a Level I Practitioners Certification from the Interagency OPSEC Support Staff (IOSS).
