UNM Nuclear Security Program

The Nuclear Security Program, embedded within the University of New Mexico (UNM) Nuclear Engineering department, provides students with the theoretical foundations, advanced methodologies, and practical skills required to secure and protect nuclear materials and facilities. The coursework, developed and taught by subject matter experts from UNM and Sandia and Los Alamos national laboratories, will prepare the next generation of experts to apply advanced engineering capabilities to the nontraditional challenges faced in protecting the nuclear industry of the future. Two classes will be offered during the Fall 2022 session, Nuclear Material Accountancy and Control (NMAC) and Advanced Nuclear Security Theory and Practice. More information about each class and how to enroll are included in the fact sheets linked below.
