With more than 10 years of experience working to secure systems and more than 20 years working as a hardware and software research scientist, Russel Waymire is a Cyber Security subject matter expert for the International Security Engineering Department at Sandia National Laboratories

Since 2019, Russel has supported domestic and international missions with system assessment upgrades and product integration.

Previously, Russel supported the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Department of Defense projects, working at DHS in Washington, D.C., for two of those years. His work included supporting IT systems assessments as a Cyber Red Team lead.

Russel also worked on the Dante Modeling and Simulation package, which models force-on-force engagements and other facility analysis scenarios.  He also served as the Flight Software lead for Sandia’s satellite programs, where he helped to design, develop, and deploy flight software to satellites in orbit.  Russel also worked as a software developer at Honeywell, where he developed the requirements, design, implementation, and testing of software for a variety of aircraft that include the F-15, C-27J, KC-10, C-130, and the C5 aircraft.

Russel earned his M.S. in Computer Science from the University of New Mexico and his B.S in BioChemistry, Chemistry, and Computer Science from New Mexico State University.
