The Design and Evaluation Process Outline (DEPO) course is designed to provide participants with a broad understanding of the DEPO methodology used to define, design, and evaluate physical protection systems for nuclear/radiological facilities. This methodology integrates multiple, complex technological and training components to create a holistic approach to physical protection systems.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand, at a high level, the principles of a performance-based methodology to design and evaluate a physical protection system (PPS) for nuclear facilities and materials to protect against the threat of unauthorized removal or sabotage.
  • Understand the evolution of nuclear security.
  • Identify the four objectives of physical protection related to nuclear security.
  • Understand the concepts of graded approach to unauthorized removal of materials and sabotage.

The course includes both classroom and field work. Participants are asked to commit to five full days of coursework without absence or intervening work calls/meetings.
