This workshop introduces participants to the IAEA’s nuclear security guidance for protection of nuclear material, associated facilities, and associated activities.

Course content focuses on the essential elements of State’s Nuclear Security Regime as outlined in the IAEA Nuclear Security Series and guides by topical areas. Topical areas include physical protection (NSS No.13) and its integration with a facility’s Nuclear Material Accounting and Control (NMAC) system (NSS No.25-G), Vital Area Identification (NSS No.16), Nuclear Security Culture (NSS No.7), and Cybersecurity (NSS No.17) The workshop stresses the importance of nuclear security culture and the impact of the human factor on nuclear security effectiveness.

Participants identify legal and regulatory elements, examine roles and responsibilities, and discuss recommendations for theft and sabotage at facilities and during transport.
