Engineering Program/Project Lead

As a Project Lead in the International Nuclear Security Engineering (INSE) department at Sandia National Laboratories, Gregory (Greg) A. Baum specializes in the field of nuclear security. He manages multiple security programs, where he designs, implements, and evaluates integrated physical protection systems that protect nuclear facilities from sabotage and prevent the theft of nuclear materials.

Prior to joining INSE, Greg spent two years in Physical Protection Management at a U.S. Department of Energy test facility, where he was responsible for administering all technical requirements of the Safeguards & Security Program within the facility and directed the implementation of all security measures.

Previously, Greg worked as a security analyst in the Sandia Physical Security department, which gave him a broad knowledge of security systems and of the systems engineering approach used in analysis. This work also gave him deeper knowledge in adversary planning, table-top modeling, combat simulations modeling, tactical combat, blast analysis modeling, physical security, and detection, delay, and response protection strategies. Greg also worked as a Sandia Protective Force Special Response Team (SRT) supervisor, and he continues to serve on the SRT today.

Greg holds two graduate degrees in Business Administration and in Business/Organizational Security Management from Webster University.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in business from Northern State University in South Dakota.
