J.D. Patrick joined Sandia National Laboratories in 1988, and currently works in global security programs, specializing in the evaluation, design, and implementation of integrated physical protection systems. He is the project lead for U.S. Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration Office of Radiological Security domestic projects, and Physical Protection Engineer for international projects, which protect radiological sources at universities, hospitals, and research and similar facilities, and has worked both across the U.S. and internationally throughout Europe, Africa, Former Soviet Union, Asia and South America.
Applying his broad knowledge of security systems using a systems engineering approach, J.D. conducts security site surveys, support vulnerability analysis, and develops project management plans, requirement documents, and test plans. He was an ITC-21 subgroup instructor, where he shared his knowledge of camera, lens, and tower mounting, Video Motion Detection (VMD) Alarm Control & Display (AC&D), entry control, delay barriers, and response protection strategies.
He is supporting training for the ITC instructors/class, US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Sandia’s Design Evaluation Process Outline (DEPO), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Site Security Planning (SSP), and International Response Training (IRT).
J.D. earned an Associate Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from DeVry Institute of Technology and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He previously served in the U.S. Air Force, working with electronic counter measures and auto-tracking radar.
