LWRS Physical Security Vulnerability Assessment Workshop

The DOE-NE Light Water Reactor Sustainability (LWRS) Program’s Physical Security Pathway (PSP) program will host a limited, in-person vulnerability assessment classroom workshop and semi-annual stakeholder meeting at Idaho National Laboratory. A follow-on vulnerability assessment field workshop will be held at Sandia National Laboratories, where attendees from the first workshop will be able to put their knowledge to use by conducting hands-on data collection exercises.

COURSE CONTENT

Workshop Classroom Session

  • August 21-25, 2023, at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
  • This workshop consists of eleven modules that span two in-classroom sessions covering a modified DOE vulnerability assessment (VA) process for application at domestic nuclear power plant sites. The course structure introduces the VA methodology to develop a basic understanding of the overall process.
  • Topics will include Scoping Agreements, Target Characterization, Threat Characterization, Facility Characterization, Response Force Characterization, Insider Threat, Pathway Analysis, Scenario Development, and Neutralization Methodology. There is also a planned demonstration at the INL Blast Range.

In-Person Semi-Annual Stakeholder Meeting

  • The stakeholder meeting features a half-day of physical security research updates, presentations, and discussions.
  • August 24, 2023, at Idaho National Laboratory.

Workshop Field Session

  • October 24-27, 2023, at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
  • You cannot attend the field session without first completing the classroom session.
