Asia Regional Decommissioning Series

The Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration’s (DOE/NNSA) Office of International Nuclear Security (INS) is hosting a 2-day virtual event on the topic of “Nuclear Security During Decommissioning”. Decommissioning is a high priority topic as some countries are seeking to decommission older facilities, or there may be legal requirements for countries building new plants or those looking to transition to advanced and small modular reactors to plan for the end of life of nuclear facilities prior to new construction.  Nuclear security is critical to ensure maintained protection of nuclear or other radioactive material that has accumulated during the operations stage. It is also important to consider security needs and requirements early in the planning stages of new facilities.

Interested in sharing your expertise with other nuclear security professionals? Consider participating as a presenter or panelist in an upcoming session. Future topics include: managing the unexpected; security considerations during transition from operations to decommissioning; stakeholder involvement and socioeconomic impacts; transportation security; security by design; and international cooperation. Contact the series organizers to learn more.

**The virtual technical exchanges will be conducted in English**
